Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump hosts a campaign event at the Prairie du Chien Area Arts Center in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

The travel schedules of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump have made it clear that the US presidential election is being fought in a handful of battleground states with a recent track record of swinging between the two parties.

It has involved Trump, the Republican nominee, and Harris, the vice-president who replaced President Biden on the Democratic ticket, focusing on five states that Biden flipped from Trump in 2020: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

Two other close states are also receiving a lot of attention: Nevada (narrowly held by Biden) and North Carolina (narrowly held by Trump).
