A Timelapse of the Milky Way Galaxy from 40,000 feet

I captured this on a flight from Maui, HI to Dallas, TX in early March of 2020.
I had a whole row to myself on the plane, so I set up my camera and tripod on the window seat and captured this timelapse over a period of 4 hours.

Settings: 14mm, f/1.8, 6", ISO 20,000, 1900 frames

Gear used:

Music: Audiomachine - A Trick of the Mind..

The natural beauty. 40 000 feet away from the polluted earth. This is remarkable if this is what astronauts see every night

Cameras have much higher light exposure than the human eye, so it can capture much fainter stars and light than we can. You wouldn't see the night sky like this on any plane. Hence why the sunrise was so blinding at the end.

At the same time its scary but its also calming. Knowing that when you die you can explore all of this makes me think that we should not be scared of death and we should all live normally in peace without "speeding up" the timer to us or other people.

Everyone in the comments, it is actually pretty easy to see the Milky Way, as well as Andromeda, and a bunch of other cool stuff like you see in this video with the naked eye.

You have to drive out of the cities, WAY out of the cities. A couple of hundred miles. The light pollution that cities cause is destroying out view of this natural wonder. Look online for Dark Sky Parks, or just travel to Upper Michigan, Northern Wisconsin, Northern Ontario, or any where that has no natural light sources. Again, don't be in town, get out in the middle of nowhere. A quiet beach, a large empty field, or on top of a dark hill.

Then, when you get there, leave your flashlights off and wait. It's going to take about a half hour before your eyes adjust, but you will be able to see all of this, and more if you just are patient and look.

As someone who has taken some of these pictures, and looked at the sky while doing it, yes, you get MUCH more detail with the camera, but the fact that I've seen it with the naked eye is WHY I started doing astrophotography.
