I remember having to read this book for school, and once everyone finished we went on a great class trip to see this in theaters. It was definitely one of the better trips.

The only significant difference between the book and movie was that Stanley was called out as specifically overweight in the books and lost that weight and gained some muscle from digging. Considering how insignificant that part of the story that was, I think this was pretty faithful.

What the BS: Why was the book challenged or banned? Holes is banned because in a 5th grade American class, in Conners Emerson School, America, the book was read out loud, which caused an uproar among their parents. They thought it was an inappropriate book to read to 9 year olds… this was a great book and movie.

I remember it was revealed in the book that the reason those lizards didn’t bite Stanley and Zero was because of the miraculous onions they had been eating, even though they didn’t know. I read it a long long time ago but this is a part that stood out for me and I’ll always remember it. The way the author had executed it took me by surprise. Maybe I don’t remember it exactly they way it was said but...yeah. Wish the recap had mentioned it.

Was it actually a blessing in disguise though because if he wouldn't have been arrested he wouldn't have met zero they wouldn't have broken the curse he wouldn't have found the treasure and his family wouldn't have found the secret ingredient to their stinky shoe formula
