Omg, my kids first knew Diana Ross as "Rainbow's mom!" 🥰🌈 I laughed so hard, I was like "Diana Ross was Beyoncé before Beyoncé was Beyoncé! She's the QUEEN!!!" They have since learned more about the legend that is Miss Diana

I’m 63 years old. I guess it’s hard for me to understand how anybody could go through the life never hearing that song? Not even in a grocery store? Not even on the car radio? That is so strange to me! It’s like a worldwide anthem!

It's Diana what else needs to be said. About 287 years ago, 1973, lol I was 13 and spending a summer in LA with my uncle. He took me to Lake Tahoe, and we went to the dinner show at Caeser's Palace. I was about 6-8 chairs from the stage and I was mesmerized. Miss Ross was in her prime. I was a lucky kid. Enjoy this tune.

the way this song is so casually recorded, its as if shes just casually walked up to this guy in the disco bar, and is telling him whats up

A MOTOWN FAME. LOVE HER ❤️ HAD a crush on her in the 60s. I'll be 74 in February so I remember her and the Supremes very well. I would say 98 % of the backup band behind the motown singers were the FUNK BROTHERS

A few years back I read in one of the entertainment music magazines that Diana Ross is a music legend on par with Elvis, the Beatles, and Michael. I think she is. Motown is great...and Diana Ross is the signature act of that era.

Diana did a great duo singing this song with Jay Kay and Jamiroquai.

Dianna Ross was amazing - from super famous Motown group The Supremes and maintained her fame as a solo artist for decades within different genres, including disco.

Jay, you should recognize that rhythm -- Mase rapped over it, and I'm sure others did too. Written and produced by Nile Rodgers (guitar) and Bernard Edwards (bass) from Chic. Diana ruled the charts in different stretches. Check out "Love Hangover" (mid 70s disco), "Mirror Mirror" (R&B with plenty of guitar and horns), "The Boss" (more disco), "It's My House" (R&B from the "The Boss" album), "Telephone" (midtempo R&B with Bernard Edwards on bass and producing), "Have Fun Again" (another one from Rodgers & Edwards), "Work That Body" (aerobics music), ... and others...

I have a vivid memory of dancing to this, losing myself in it when I was 8.

Great song! You can tell that Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of the band Chic ("Le Freak, " which you have reacted to) had a hand in songwriting and producing on "Upside Down." You should also check out Chic's songs "I Want Your Love" and "Good Times" (which the Sugarhill Gang sampled on their early rap hit "Rapper's Delight" in 1979).

Diana Ross has been a superstar since the 1960's former lead singer of the Suprems

starting the track with that muted strum is just perfect. Straight into it. This would've sounded so fresh at the time
