It's absolutely astounding how long crabs have been on this planet! Great to see this

I honestly see those legs after looking a bit, because of the outlines of them. I understand that it can be hard on some nodules but yeah. Great example though! No matter how often I update YouTube, I always find your videos in the first few rows

Thank goodness I found this video because I was so frustrated that I couldn't make out the legs.

I grew up in southern Alberta, and 3-4 times a year we would go to Drumheller. Sometimes to the dinosaur museum, and for fossil digging camps in the summer. As a kid it was awe inspiring knowing that remnants of such ancient life was discoverable by anyone! No special tools required. Have you ever been to the badlands?

How fossils have always been discovered is by seeing multiple rocks with with very similar, to nearly identical, features (but not geometric crystal structures). They're the same size, shape, and composition. And symmetry also is a big sign that it could be organic in origin.
When I started really getting into fossil hunting a couple of years ago, I noticed that in one location, where there were an abundance of fossil shells, I noticed several rocks about the same size that all had the same arch shape. And some had two rows of evenly spaced bumps on the ridge. Turns out they were fragments of ammonites.

That’s one of the most impressive fossils I’ve seen. Usually it’s something I can’t immediately identity. That definitely is a crab. Very cool!! Thanks for sharing!

I enjoy seeing your preparation in situ, that really supports the fossil for viewing.
