The piece you don't know came off a cardigan sweater! It is sewn on each side to hold the sweater closed. Someone was smart enough to cut it off. Those metal loops are the same as button holes on vintage buttons 😊😊

That is really cool. I want to know how to test for silver and turquoise. I have some pieces I think are but not sure. Thanks for tips!!

Hi Courtney. I think they are buttons for a cloak or cape...

Looks like a clasp for a cape, shawl or heavy scarf.

I think it’s a gorgeous vintage artisan necklace statement piece and the chain goes thru the back…it’s really stunning ❤❤❤

I think it is a clasp closure for a fur. Especially if it is sterling silver. I can’t imagine someone would spend the money to put a sterling silver closure on a cardigan. It would also be far too heavy. But furs are leather backed and then typically Satin lined. So they would be sturdy enough to support that kind of clasp.

Could the piece be a belt buckle using chains instead of leather or cloth?

I don’t think it’s a belt buckle. I believe that it’s a Button Clasp Fastener. They are a decorative clasp for jackets.

I think your piece is a cloak or cape hook fastener.

How do you clean Bakelite prior to testing it? Do you just use a dry cloth and wipe the service dirt off or do you use like some kind of baby wipes Clorox wipe

I think the piece you don’t know what it is might be a vintage belt buckle

You could use a wet qtip to clean in that tight spot? A dry q tip and then the cloth?

Your mystery item is definitely a belt buckle. The small rings on the back wall most likely intended to attach to chains.

I tried to purchase the product and found out it's illegal to buy in California. 😕 Brasso is the next best product to use.
