Alternate futures aren't necessarily needed to explain the differences between the anime and manga. The anime is meant to add to the manga, not contradict it; a lot of the anime-exclusive stuff doesn't really contradict the manga. In the case of Urashiki, the plot of the manga doesn't really change at all even if you were to assume he was actually there in the background. These things easily could have just not been shown in any chapters since most of what Urashiki does is a self-contained plot revolving around him.

What this means is that Urashiki could appear later in the manga without contradicting the anime, and without alternate timelines. You could just say his whole arc simply wasn't shown in the manga because nothing about the story really changes if you leave it out. Someone would need to explain how he's alive, but it wouldn't be hard to say he teleported away at the last second to avoid his death, secretly implanted a Karma in someone offscreen before these events, or just got revived somehow (like by another Otsutsuki). The whole point of the moon people is that they're incredibly hard to permanently kill, so none of these explanations would be out of the question.

My favorite theory that would tie this all together is that Urashiki is actually the ten-tails being held captive who has sort of been passed from villain to villain throughout the Boruto series, or at least, that he is going to become a similar case. We know that these ten tails are actually a species, not a single organism, and that an otsutsuki must be sacrificed in order for one to be created. We also see that at least some of a sacrifice's essence is carried over into a living divine tree based on the tree people "eating" and copying random characters. This means that another Otsutsuki easily could have saved or revived Urashiki in the background of the plot so that they could use him as a sacrifice and turn him into a Ten Tails.

This would explain why Urashiki is canonically and obviously weaker than the other Otsutsukis; because his purpose is to be used as a sacrifice and turned into a Ten Tails. This would also make his incredibly petty and spiteful personality make more sense, as no other Otsutsuki ever demonstrates such a big personality. Maybe the purpose of his spiteful personality will translate to this Ten Tails being incredibly uncooperative and destructive, or just generally willing to betray the people keeping it captive.

This is a bit of a stretch, but personally I'd be excited if Urashiki ended up betraying his entire race and all of their affiliated cult groups and somehow became a ten tails jinchuriki like Obito and Madara.

During the arc with the time turtle, when boruto and Sasuke got separated from urashiki, what was he doing during that time? What took him so long to get there? I think they left a lot of questions behind this character, intentionally.
