The legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table receives its most impressive screen treatment in Excalibur, from visionary director John Boorman (Deliverance, Hope and Glory). All the elements of Sir Thomas Malory's classic Le Morte Darthur are here: Arthur (Nigel Terry) removing the sword Excalibur from the stone; the Round Table's noble birth and tragic decline; the heroic attempts to recover the Holy Grail; and the shifting balance of power between wily wizard Merlin (Nicol Williamson) and evil sorceress Morgana (Helen Mirren). With Patrick Stewart, Gabriel Byrne and Liam Neeson in notable early screen roles.

So few trailers really capture what the movie is actually like. Some make the movie look way better than it is and some never do the movie justice. But honestly this trailer really captures the whole spirit of this great flick! Epic, over-the-top, drama, action, beautiful cinematography, all rockin out to O Fortuna... doesn't get better than this!

0:32- I can see why audiences flocked to this, because the trailer is awesome.
1:14- And the movie is quotable as hell.
2:20- And for some reason, I also wanna watch Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3.

_Behold, the sword of power! Excalibur!_
This was sampled on a Swedish song that I remember listening to in my childhood, and now I know where it's from. =)

I loved watching this film! The locations, costumes, acting, everything was designed to pull you in for the ride. I remember it having such a dream-like, shiny, otherworldly quality. It was shot perfectly. It can almost be seen in this trailer. A remaster would bring it back to its proper viewing glory. Even without it, you can see how great and quotable the film is to take in. And this is also when trailers didn't show the entire movie giving away the entire plot. Made you want to actually see what happens on the film. ☺️💙🖤⚔️✨

I would love to see an uncut version of this movie, but John Boorman mentioned that he thinks what is left out if just as important as what's left in. He made his decision and he is standing by it. So i have to agree.. but still lol

Film is still unparalleled. Merlin's (Nicol Williamson's) "look into the eyes of the dragon ..." sounding a register or two higher than in the final film version.

Widespread use of "O Fortuna" in advertising and other forms of popular culture may have begun with the trailer for the 1981 movie Excalibur, which uses the song in its entirety.

Merlin's delivery of "into the Dragon's eyes" is different to the movie version: more high-pitched and slightly different intonation.

Strange women, lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.

In the era in which Arthur supposedly lived, no one was wearing suits of armor like those.

They should make a series based on John Boorman's 1981 film Excalibur. But based on how they butchered The Witcher, Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings, preferably not by Netflix, Disney or Prime. Though, in defense of Prime, they did do a good job with The Expanse and The Boys.
