I think it's important to remember that there is the Angels and there is the "Heavenly Host". I think those unusual looking creatures like the eye balls are members of the Host and not the Angelic realm.

The Arch angels and guardian angels look like humans. Many times in the Old Testament, angels communicated with humans, and many of those angels looked just like human men, except they were surrounded with a beautiful glow around themselves. That glow, was the glory of God, permeating from their bodies. The Watchers lost that glory, when they rebelled against God. Satan lost his God given glory, when he was cast to the earth. The Seraphim, Cherubim, and Ophanim are the angels being portrayed here. They are all a higher class of angels than even the arch angels from what the book of Enoch 1 says.
