2 methods that work for me are:
1) Think of something that is important to you, like something you like doing, or a really good quote or lyric... how would you turn that into a game?
"Everyone is a genius but if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree it will go through life believing it is stupid" turned into a mobile game where you controlled a fish trying to climb a tree by bouncing from one branch to the next.

2) Just start with something really generic. Either follow some tutorials to learn something new, or pick a genre and just start on the basics... You'll learn something and tighten your skills, and more often than not you'll have a Eureka moment on that one mechanic or idea that's going to make it totally stand out from the pack... and if not, well not everything has to be original if you at least do it well.

I have so many ideas pop in my head that, in order to stop myself from jumping off to another project before finishing the one I'm working on, I have to write the idea down in my giant book and lie to myself that "I'll get to that idea one day".

Bro an awesome game would be an Ancient Astronaut game! You start off as a human way back in the day and you're visited by ancient aliens that teach you things to further civilization. You build pyramids for them and stuff and you gain ufo access and other technology. The game starts off with nothing but you and the dirt but it ends up with you having worked with aliens and advanced technology. I want this game so bad. Like just hire an indie team that's seen every episode of ancient aliens lol
