I appreciate that there weren't ads. Especially since I'm in a rush to get this done before tomorrow.

quick character analysis for y’all: Ralph— good leader, strong, good-looking, one of the older boys. he represents civilisation throughout the book with his leadership skills, his use of the conch (which represents order) and his sensibleness in wanting to build huts and fire and not have a toilet near the water area. Piggy—not a very good leader because the other boys make fun of him, but he is smart. he represents reason throughout the book. he is fat and probably had a pretty decent life back at home because he talks about his auntie. he would make a better leader than ralph in the sense of his logic, which he keeps throughout the novel whereas most of the other boys become savages. he has his glasses, which are a symbol of vision (piggy sees things how they are and also has a soul, which is kind of eyes being the window to the soul), and they are also used for building a fire. when jack breaks them it does the beginning of the descent from civilisation (they need the glasses for fire, showing jacks impulsiveness, animals don’t wear glasses, glasses are built by humans, people wear glasses which shows civilisation.). ralph starts throughout the book to wish he had piggy’s logic, but people don’t listen to piggy. he died trying to get people to stop, telling them that they could live the rest of their lives here, which piggy did. Jack— a symbol of savagery. he starts to turn wild as soon as he hunts properly for the first time. he often fights for the conch or speaks out of turn, and often leads the mocking of piggy and simon. towards the end of the novel, he has his own little tribe. he starts the hunts and the tribal chants and orders the death of simon, thinking that it is the beast. this is ironic, as jack originally dismissed the idea of the beastie, yet a boy was killed because of jack’s belief. jack gets roger to do his dirty work (roger pushed the boulder which killed piggy, i believe), and he is manipulative. Simon—probably the most interesting character. he is mysterious from the start. he is kind to the littluns. he gives them fruit. this is religious imagery as Simon is depicted as Jesus Christ. he remains faithful to his own beliefs and himself throughout the book and he is eventually killed by people who have let evil engulf them. the only difference is that he isn’t really mentioned again. he is forgotten. he is a symbol of innocence, and his death showed the total loss of it on the island. he also represents the devil on this sense. his eyes are described as wicked, which is kind of evil, but also, he gives the littluns fruit and who tempted adam and eve to the fruit? satan. it’s not as obvious as the jesus imagery, but it is there as well. he also doesn’t like public speaking. he has his own special place on the island. when he is described as having wicked, piercing eyes, it is a symbol of vision. piggy has his glasses and simon has his eyes. simon is really, really clever. he understand that the beast is them. that they are just thinking it. he knows what humans can become, which makes him more mysterious. why does he know this? has he suffered with mental health? have people near him, maybe that’s why he needs a secret place? but he doesn’t know how to articulate his thought. also, at first he dismissed the idea just like ralph and jack and piggy. this is ironic, because he died in a horrible, horrible way (basically torn to death by the other boys teeth) because they though that he was the beast. it’s ironic because not only did he first suggest that there wasn’t even a beast, but he also suggested that it was all in their head. which is why he died. because they were so shrouded in fear and savagery that they saw him and immediately killed him before even seeing who it was. and they probably did see who it was, but they couldn’t stop. because that’s what humans can become

edit: feel free to ask me for any more analogies in the replies I really enjoy this kind of thing this is like my favourite book
