2025: A New Low for Manual Transmissions

The year 2025 marks a significant decline in the availability of manual transmissions, with only 30 car models featuring a manual gearbox. Many of these cars are built on shared platforms as manufacturers strive to reduce costs. For example, BMW shares platforms between the Z4, M2, M3, and M4, while Toyota collaborates with BMW for the Supra and with Subaru for the GR86 and BRZ. Similarly, Cadillac employs shared platforms for the CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing models, and Honda adopts a comparable strategy with the Civic Si, Civic Type R, Integra, and Integra Type S. This year, there are just 15 distinct manual platforms available
