[The History Channel] - Lupercalia was an ancient pagan festival held each year in Rome on February 15. Although Valentine’s Day shares its name with a martyred Christian saint, some historians believe the holiday is actually an offshoot of Lupercalia. Unlike Valentine’s Day, however, Lupercalia was a bloody, violent and sexually charged celebration awash with animal sacrifice, random matchmaking and coupling in the hopes of warding off evil spirits and infertility.

My kids (18 & 19) JUST asked me about this yesterday. I couldn’t exactly find an answer and assumed it was something Catholics made up (because of how they pray to saints). I will send them both this.

Colossians 2:18 (KJV) Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,

You mentioned Lupricalia, do you know the details about Lupricalia? and doesn't the Bible say don't do like the heathens. I think anything involving the worship of pagan Gods is a biblical reason for not celebrating Valentine's day.

I think it is ok to take part in Valentine’s Day because it’s a day that celebrates love. Love is a good thing. I don’t think Jesus would have a problem with this holiday. It’s just an extra special day to show how much you love the other person or people in your life. God bless ❤

Valentine is a just day between loved once it can be even between two good friends and has nothing to do with Christianity . I always tell my friends and family that I loved them and I don't need to wait for 14th of Feb so I think that day is the same as other days .😊

I don’t understand why people have to be told that there is a particular day when they should show someone their love for them. There are 365 days in a year to show people you love them. Why choose one particular day you’re told to? Money may have something to do with it.

What can be wrong with sending a card to a loved one on a particular day, it all depends on your motivation for doing it. It seems pretty legalist to even worry about such things: surely we have more important things to think about and much worse sins to avoid. In any case, it's not "Christian", but surely some things can just be neutral, indifferent? Romans 14?!!! The most ignored chapter of the NT.

The Bible specially says to be not confirmed to the world it also states not to take on pagan holidays and it also says come out from among them so I’m not sure this is in line with biblical truth

I'm very careful of Holidays that aren't biblical. I'd rather not participate, it's not a big deal anyway.
