Ralph Fiennes is defending J.K Rowling amid her controversial comments about trans people in an interview with the Telegraph this morning. The ‘Harry Potter’ actor is breaking away from many of his fellow castmates like Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, who all condemned Rowling’s comments and offered support to the trans community this past summer.

I hate cancel culture. It’s a disgrace.

Ralph Fiennes has worded this very cleverly... he isn't supporting her views, and most certainly doesn't say whether he agrees with them or not - he is pointing out that the level of nastiness that people are aiming at her is unnecessary.

Read her actual comments and didn't think they were bigoted at all:

“I respect every trans person’s right to live any way that feels authentic and comfortable to them. I’d march with you if you were discriminated against on the basis of being trans. At the same time, my life has been shaped by being female. I do not believe it’s hateful to say so.” - JK Rowling

This is what all the uproar is about? Geez.

That’s because he’s a sensible chap from an era when people were allowed different perspectives without being threatened by violence or the prospect of losing your career.

I think in light of the Dave Chappell special, he proves how ridiculous and petulant one side of this debate is. J.K expressed genuine concerns that most women have. The Twitter trolls decided that being part of what they think is the ‘right side of history’ online is more important than real life.

Change my mind.

The Irony of Voldermort (Fiennes) standing up for what's right in this manufactured outrage witch hunt against Rowling and society as a whole....Voldermort (Fiennes) demonstrating more moral fortitude, character, spine/courage than the placating 'heroic' Harry Potter trio (Radcliffe, Watson, Grint) is quite the reversal fitting for this insane age & woke culture we find ourselves in. My respect for Ralph Fiennes has gone way up for being one of few speaking up in defense of JK Rowling and doing what's right...Much Respect to you Sir! Can't say the same for the Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, or Rupert Grint...bunch of spinesless, brainwashed, virtue-signalling cowards...who owe much of their careers/fortunes to JK Rowling herself btw. Smh.

I’m tired of it all. There is never a conversation it’s always we will take everything from you for having a different view or seeming too. In this day of instant commentary their is no room for communication. If you don’t agree with or seem to have a different perspective you are condemned and will be punished.

The book isn't about "a serial killer who dresses like women". That character is barely mentioned in it

"The author has come under widespread criticism from her comments" An incredibly loud minority is not widespread

I’m LGBT and supports JKR's statements - with the exception of her toilet views - but I understand where they come from. As for the rest, it seems to have gone straight over the head of the more millitant trans community. Read what she says in her open letter and do your research. She’s right!!!!

"Her latest novel hasn't help matters as it shows a male serial killer who dresses as a woman".

What about "Silence of the lambs" or "Psycho"? I don't remember any criticism towards these movies. I find the whole argument really stupid

Voldemort is more rational than most people in this timeline.

I feel so sorry for J.K. Rowling. She does not deserve all this hate. People are so overreacting although she never really offended trans people. She just worries about what might happen to women when people claim gender does not exist. She even explained herself and stated that she was abused herself. And these people just ignore her pain and act like she's a monster. I hope that one day people will realize they've done her wrong. What J.K. said wasn't evil at all. Fighting for women's rights is not transphobic.

Cancel culture is the new fascism. Kudos to him for starting up to it

The day will come when the hormone treatment of children will be deemed abuse and it will take more than apologies to get out of that one.

She’s just opinionated. And she’s getting hate for it. I’m part of the LGBTQ community and I find it very toxic sometimes. Those part of the community tend to get very offended easily while I’m trying a reasonable approach to understand others.
