Nazi goose-stepping, a distinctive marching style associated with the Third Reich, holds a prominent place in the annals of military history. This unique and synchronized marching technique became synonymous with the Nazi regime and evoked both fear and awe. In this essay, we delve into the origins of Nazi goose-stepping, exploring its historical development and the factors that contributed to its adoption by the Nazi Party.
First. Historical Context:
To understand the genesis of Nazi goose-stepping, it is essential to examine the political and social milieu of the Weimar Republic. The devastating consequences of World War I, coupled with economic turmoil and political instability, created a fertile ground for radical ideologies to flourish. During this time, various paramilitary organizations emerged, seeking to shape public opinion and impose their authority through forceful means.
Second. The Sturmabteilung (S.A.) and its Influence:
One crucial organization that played a significant role in the rise of Nazi goose-stepping was the Sturmabteilung (S.A.), also known as the Storm Detachment. Led by Ernst Röhm, the SA was the Nazi Party's paramilitary wing, tasked with protecting party meetings and intimidating political opponents. The S.A. sought to instill discipline and uniformity within its ranks, emphasizing strict marching formations and synchronized movements.
Third. The Influence of Military Traditions:
While the S.A. laid the groundwork for goose-stepping, the origins of this marching style can be traced back to Prussian military traditions. Prussia, known for its strict military discipline, had a profound impact on the development of military tactics in Germany. Prussian drill regulations emphasized precise footwork, upright posture, and synchronized movements, all of which laid the foundation for the distinctive goose-stepping technique.
Fourth. Nazi Propaganda and Symbolism:
Propaganda played an integral role in shaping the Nazi Party's image and spreading their ideology. The visual impact of goose-stepping served as a powerful tool to convey discipline, strength, and loyalty.

Why did they adopt the Goose step? Because the Imperial German Army did it, who had previously adopted it from the Prussians who originally developed it. Not terribly complicated, I was hoping the video would get to the point.

The goosestep is the best step; there's too much damn head-bobbing otherwise. It minimizes the elevating and lowering of the head and makes for a smooth, uniform collective motion. It's beautiful.

Goose stepping isn’t a Nazi thing. It’s a Prussian thing. One of the many traditions Nazi Germany inherited from the Weimar Republic, who in turn inherited it from the Empire, who had in turn inherited it from the Prussians.

This video is just so wrong, goosesteppping was invented in Prussia in 18th century to get some discipline in the army and to look more stylish, it was followed by imperial german military and weimar republic, s reichswehr and then the wehrmacht, it doesnt mean Nazism, its german tradition

Ideology had exactly to do with the goosestep. It was Prussian Militaria. And is still done by a rather large portion of Militaries around the globe today. Even the Soviet's had their own version of it. The Chinese do, the North Koreans, the Chileans.

The commentary here is incorrect. The Goose-step originated in Prussia in the eighteenth century an later spread to Russia, Chile and China. It is associated with the German Nazi, but it is no longer used by the post war German military. Many South American military incorporate the goose step in their marches . Chilean uniformed do it In exactly the same way and with ain’t uniforms as the Prussian armed forces. Communist nations such as China, Russia, Vietnam and North Korea armed forces do the goose step. As well as many Africans countries such as Tanzania and tue Seychelles.
