STUNG by a Bulldog Ant!

Mark Vins is rolling up his sleeve to enter the sting zone with the dreaded Bulldog Ant!

Since the Bullet Ant sting no other insect has been requested more for a sting test than Australia’s Bulldog Ant, aka jumping jack ant. Armed with massive jaws and a stinger filled with formic acid, these ants attack in swarms and are avoided at all costs by locals throughout Australia. Tales of their stings are legendary and reach far from the golden coasts of OZ.

Will this jumping terror live up to the hype or fall down the ranks of the insect sting pain index?

Well, your arm had one of the strongest naturally occurring organic acids injected into it. Formic acid isn't a joke. The after effects are basically a chemical burn under your skin.

Mark’s got such a great on screen personality. It’s amazing to think he spent many years behind the camera. He practically matches Coyote’s charisma and enthusiasm

You're a champ, Mark. Cool to see you step up to do these challenges. That's a gnarly sting, dude.

I just feel like we should give mark the credit he deserves. I've been watching the channel for years. Mark has come a long ways as far as getting up close and personal with the stings and other things that coyote does. Great job Mark!👏

Imagine the story the ant told his buddies when he got back.
"I was abducted by aliens!" 😂

Its said to be one of the most painful stings because unlike most of the things in Australia, you actually live long enough to feel the pain.

Mark: Coyote. Why do you always get me in these situations? 🌵
*Also Mark* : I’m about to get stung by the Bullet Ant 🐜

Got bitten/stung by these plenty of times as a kid. We used to stir up the nests to watch them pour out and would sometimes miss them when they got close. Pro tip: If you wanna scare the crap out of your friend, tickle the back of their leg with some grass when they arent watching and are concentrating on the ants

Finally, a video of something I can find in my backyard! Well, almost.
In Tasmania we get plenty of Jack-Jumpers (Myrmecia pilosula) which seem to be the more bouncy, aggressive sort, but their stings don't hurt quite as bad or for as long, the itch afterward is more annoying than the sting. Though there have been reported deaths to this ant, I believe they were all cases of anaphylactic shock.
But we also get Bulldog ants, also called Bull ants or Inchmen (Myrmecia esuriens). From some quick googling, it looks like the Myrmecia brevinoda that you got stung by are generally a fair bit larger than the ones we get here though, the [esuriens] queens being at largest 0.94 inches (still a big bloody ant!) compared to the brevinoda queen's massive 1.6 inches.
When I was a kid my mate managed to get stung on the buttock by one, and it swole up to almost twice its regular size. I also remember as an even younger child, my younger sister unknowingly sat on a nest of them and received 7 or 8 bites by memory. I remember by her scream alone, and the way she ran, I thought she had been bitten by a snake for sure.

Bulldog ants are my favorite. I'd never wanna encounter one in person, but I love their head shape and how they can actually JUMP!

Wow, that sure is one intimidating ant. Doesn’t surprise me that it’s found in Australia. You also make a great presentor, Mark!

I'll never forget accidentally digging up one of those nests as a kid, those ants are quick and jump and will get you in ways you don't expect. 30 years later I still haven't matched that pain.
The family of ant the Myrmecia is a throwback from early ant evolution before pheromone based teamwork evolved. Primitive ants often had to hunt without teamwork and hence the strong mandibles and strong simple (formic acid) sting.

i like how he’s keeping the coyote peterson tradition alive, getting stung by ants and stuff, but it just doesn’t feel the same without coyote…………

We get lots of them around where I work on the south-east of Aus (although they're pretty much black, still over an inch long in some cases) and I always pay them respect. Very hard working ants that will chase you around if you decide to bother them. A bit of a trip when you realise that they can easily spot you from a little bit of distance when most ants don't pay you mind unless you stand in them.
