I'm a Bavarian who moved to Berlin, here the shops are open until at least 10pm and if you know where, you can get groceries on Sunday too. My parents have a culture shock every time they're here and I have a reverse culture shock everytime I return to everything is closed

It used to be even worse when shops would close at 2:30pm on Saturdays.

If you come to Austria from germany it is a small shock as well. They dont open 7-22 Uhr they open 8-20 Uhr and on saturday 8-18 Uhr. And then they are holidays we dont celebrate in germany, but they do in Austria and everything is closed

I am german and it happened to me as well already on a public holiday. The bad thing, the supermarket was just across the road. If i would have looked out of the window, i would have seen no cars, no people. But still, i grabbed my bag and went downstairs only to walk up again... To my excuse, that was after i moved back to Germany after 8 years living in the UK.
