Marwan ibn al-Hakam was the fourth Ummayad Caliph, who took over the dynasty after Muawiya II gave up the title in 684. Both him and his father Hakam were cursed from the tongue of the Prophet (saw) and banished from Madina due to their atrocious conduct. The decision was reversed during the Caliphate of Uthman who during his tenure not only allowed them up return, he propelled Marwan to as governor of Madina. His grip over emboldened yet further under Muwaiyah, as governor of Madina during his tenure, he was tasked with implementing an unrelenting agenda to propagate hatred towards the Ahulbayt (a.s). Marwan would curse Imam Ali (a.s) during Friday sermons, even changing the Eid sermon timing to ensure people sat through such cursing. He also oversaw the persecution of the Shia of Ali (a.s). This reason behind this hatred was, of course, due to him being a hypocrite, that wanted to obliterate love of the Ahulbayt (a.s) from the hearts and minds of the people, that of course meant he was in fact an enemy of Allah (swt) and his Prophet (saw).

The Saudi Salafi dynasty are the inheritors of the legacy of Marwan, whilst they seek to pitch to the World that they are devout Muslims, they in fact adhere to the path of Marwan, their elders oversaw the destruction of the shrines of Baqi that housed the Ahulbayt (a.s) that coincided with their rise to power, since then they've pursued an agenda to oppress the lovers of Ahulbayt (a.s) by fostering hatred towards them through books and speakers. They have left no stone unturned to create a hostile atmosphere towards Shia Muslims, subjecting them to discrimination and poverty in areas they control, and bankrolling Salafi terrorists to murder and oppress Shias wherever they find them.
