Cab Ride in a DSRC ALCO C420: My 100th youtube video!

The Dakota Southern Railway (DSRC) was recently purchased by Stan Patterson and Mike Williams. The DSRC uses an ex LIRR high-hood C420 set up for long hood forward operation for some of it's trains. Here we ride along in the very first train that was ran after the new owners purchased it. On this day, the crew ran a short train from the BNSF interchange to a box factory in Mitchell SD. The junction is between the Aberdeen and Rapid City lines. All of the track shown in the video is ex Milwaukee Road track. The change from BNSF track to the DSRC is VERY evident! This is one of the few railroads that I know of that has to mow its main line. #213 has a very nice sounding Nathan M3 mounted on it.
This is part one of a two part video, copyright Stan Patterson, uploaded with permission.

This locomotive should be preserved once its service is finished.

Thanks for uploading, and congrats on your 100th! I saw 213 many tiimes flying by at 65 MPH with commuter coaches!
This appears to be a kinder, gentler, enviorment.

The LIRR C420's were numbered in the 200's, so it's likely this was 213 in passenger service.

213 was originally built as Long Island in Early to Mid 1964.It served the Railroad until 10/1976 when it was sold off to RKO Leasing & sent to Morristown & Erie for repairs, then later on went to Virginia & Maryland in 6/1977.It was intended to be 201, but kept 213.In 1979, it was acquired by Morrison-Knudsen & re-acquired by North American Car in South Dakota.DSRC later acquired & still remain in service here in 2015 as its 213.At last report however, May still be in service.

Hopefully so. the DSRC has already donated some of its unused equipment to museums, so hopefully this unit will follow once its service life is over.

@jason1trosvig It wasn't BNSF that planned on running the 110 car trains, it's the DSRC. Also with BNSF having been on a mission to shed branch lines I think it unlikely they would want to purchase the line.

I was told that the DSRC swapped out it's trucks for the ones under the SOO GP30, so no.

They kept the High Hood rather than "Chop Nose" it.
