I have the miter box. I do not have the 28 inch saw. I found 28 inch backsaw at True Value. I have to bring the miter box to the True Value hardware saw to see if the saw works with the miter box. Great video thanks for explaining so much about the miter box and saws.

Interesting video and good info. I found a Craftsman miter box that had the long saw and saw supports. It looks like a knock-off of the 358. I don't use it often, but there are times that it's handy. And for $10 at an estate sale, I couldn't leave without it.

I have a 358 with the original saw release .. The style prior to these. I understand the older style didnt work so well

One of the key things you did not discuss is the "spring" inside the vertical posts. Those springs are key to the function of the saw. Do you have any suggestions on how to obtain replacement springs?

I hate thieves, pretty petty for someone to steal that rare part, you sometimes find the same caliber of people with antique tractors, my uncle had a lot of old tractors and little rare parts disappeared over time.

Just a quick thought: if you turn that stop piece around upside down leaving the second rod. It could be a rest for longer boards- not?!
