Here’s why iCloud plus is the best Apple product in 2021

If you take lots of photos or videos of your family, your daily life, or when you’re out for the weekend or on holiday, sooner or later you’re going to run into storage problems. Maybe you run out of room on your phone. Now, one way of solving that problem of video and photo storage is by buying a billion hard drives to store your photos and videos - so you can offload the photos from your phone to your computer and back them up that way. And that works, but when you start getting into multiple drives, it starts to become a real hassle to manage them and know what’s on each drive, unless you have a great filing system.

And who has time right? You barely have time to open and look at your footage, let alone archive it. You just want to enjoy your photos and videos.

The other thing is that, unless you have some kind of syncing or cloud storage set-up, well then your photos or either locked up on your device / your phone or your camera, or the computer that you use to look at the files on that hard drive. If you’re not careful, you end up collecting a lot of great footage, and never really seeing it or sharing it with your family and friends. Never actually enjoying what you’ve shot.

iCloud - and more specifically, iCloud+ looks like the solution to my problems - and here’s why. Let me guide you through the two biggest reasons why I’m turning on the massive 2 terabyte option for iCloud plus, and one big problem that Apple still has to address and that I’m hoping for in 2022.

I've been an iCloud customer for years. Google Drive too. I believe in having a redundant cloud solution. Worth every penny for the peace of mind.

This is all pretty dumb and hell expensive.
1) You need an offline backup anyway. So relying solely on iCloud is really dumb. It is either 2 offline backups in 2 physical locations, or 1 online and 1 offline. Not just 1 online location.
2) How far is Apple with implementing EU laws? Those demand companies to have a human contact that can explain software algoritm decisions and revert them. So if your picture of your naked 3 year old triggers child porn watchdogs and locks your What can you do?
3) Price. 30$ a month for 6, 60$/month for 12. 720$ buys you 3x20TB hard drives, that will work for 10 years to come. Or 2x20TB both in a NAS case so they are online as well. You need to do half of it anyway because of my first point
4) Apple has no proper way of offloading data from your phone like forever. OK, speed is now finally addressed with the 15 Pro models (1200€ and up), on all other models, you have really bad days with 40MB/s transfers through ITUNES!!! Give us mass-storage protocol Apple. Oh wait, I don't get an iPhone because of this to begin with.

Interesting. Have you tried offloading files from your device or laptop, to the iCloud? For example, when running low on SSD, taking 100Gb say and copying it up to the iCloud, then seeing that it’s safely there, delete it from your device? That’s really useful for valuable files like video or something, your own music on GarageBand, etc? Thanks for the info, take care all.

That last part is the reason why i availed of the maximum storage. They’ll not be huried in the hard drive and they can be enjoyed and lived on every single day. :)

My wife bought this, and its great but I still have 45GB of space being taken up on my phone. so when I go to edit videos with IMOVIE it says "Storage full" but my icloud has crazy amount of free space.

Are you able to choose which family you share the 2tb storage with? I have 4 total family members on my family plan (my wife, brother and sister-in-law). Would I be able to only share the 2tb with my wife?
