"The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts." ~ Marcus Aurelius 🙏😊

“When a loaf of bread, for instance, is in the oven, cracks appear in it here and there; and these flaws, though not intended in the baking, have a rightness of their own, and sharpen the appetite. Figs, again, at their ripest will also crack open. When olives are on the verge of falling, the very imminence of decay adds its peculiar beauty to the fruit. So, too, the drooping head of a cornstalk, the wrinkling skin when a lion scowls, the drip of foam from a boar’s jaws, and many more such sights, are far from beautiful if looked at by themselves; yet as the consequences of some other process of Nature, they make their own contribution to its charm and attractiveness."

In Ancient Rome many people, especially well educated people, spoke Greek. Marcus Aurelius was certainly well educated, and was likely taught Greek from childhood. I’d guess he was pretty much bilingual, so it probably would have been no big deal for him to write a diary in Greek, especially the kind of material he was writing. However, WHAT he wrote is still astonishing nearly two thousand years later.

Just recently bought Meditations and read the passages he’s talking about the other day. He’s right. He had so much wisdom.

I just read that passage literally 1 hour ago, from Meditations and then I randomly watch this. Synchronicity is strong today.
He also mentions the foam on a boars mouth, all those are processes of nature and beautiful when isolated and understood.

Love Marcus Aurelius! My father gave me the golden teachings of Marcus Aurelius when I was a child.

What it is, is that he had a wonderful youth full of guidance and triumph. He was able to cultivate himself into a much better man because he had a life of excellence. This is the key to a good life.

His commitment is undeniable. The man himself actually joined our podcast and has shown us a way into his thinking. The time capsule chamber is doing wonders!

The most important philosophical writing in history was literally just the diary of an Emperor that was too busy fighting on the front lines to go philosophize.
