Are the Knights of the Black Rose Any Good in Patch 5.0? - Empire Unit Focus

I think these will be a fan favorite in fact. I've already heard talk to that effect. Empire has needed a "melee cavalry" unit like this since forever, so nice to see it happen, and they look fantastic! They perform nice and sweet too. I'm liking a lot of what I'm seeing out of Thrones of Decay.

knights of the black rose are a solid unit in a vacuum but holy moly does the campaign buffs make them awesome. their biggest "weakness" is low charge bonus which is easily solved with red line and research buffs. combine that with general/ captain buffs and they do similar damage on the charge to shock cav. but the BEST thing by far is iron resolve gained from the chapterhouse, which gives them cannot die until they get below 50% hp. imo they are the best of the 3 heavy cav varients

They're like the anvil for an all cav group. They also act like a fast shock infantry.

Their landmark in Nuln also gives them some amazing buffs in an Elspeth campaign. Iron resolve makes entities unkillable above 50% hp.

I think I remember I think this was a few weeks ago, but I watched a replay in which someone was able to rush in a Dominion match with the Empire with a master engineer on a steam tank, 4 knights of the black rose and a couple of spearmen against the Orcs all things, shockingly enough the Empire won with no ranged units involved (steam tank with a grenade launcher doesn’t count). I think how he won was that he surprised the orc player so much because the Empire before could never be that aggressive In dom.

Empire does not have a horse unit cooler than these. I used to think all Empire cav was trash and unreliable, I was like a Bretonnian snob... until I saw these knights of the black rose tear infantry apart without taking damage or needing to cycle charge. It was like love at first sight, finally an Empire cav that can match grail guardians in quality.

These guys are one of the best additions to the game and wow they're awesome for its tier 👏 these guys are able to hold the line fantasticly 😀 with thier amazing tanky stats and not mention cavalry are immune to knowback which again fantastic for holding the line were the Empire struggle the most! BUT being a cavalry unit they can still attack on the offense and charge in like a like shock cavalry (but lacks the charge bonus) they're amazing at doing so 😀 with that fantastic infrantry bonus damage! I also notice majority of game's range units they're classified as infranty so these "knights of the black rose" 🌹 is melee cavalry unit that not only can hold the line on defense but also charge in and take out range infrantry units like boss! 🤯 thanks to that bonus damage to infrantry! Thus maintaining the empire supreme in range and artillery!

This is why i quickly realize these guys are amazing 👏 because they're more versatile than people realize! I love these new units 😍

Ps. The only thing i'm disappointed about this unit is that it doesn't have the passive "causes fear" or "causes terror" which it a huge disappointment because of their awesome grimdark designs 😕 i guess they'll be abit Overpowered if they recieve anymore buffs since they're already a strong 💪, also they have psychological immunity which adds more resilience! solid unit for a tier 2 ❤

Solid unit, kinda ackward that reiksguard are now basically worse than a random chapter of morr with no feats, at least they could have used the Knights of the Raven

Does "Taste for Battle" even work on them? It says "Empire Knights and Demigryph units". Do they mean every "Knight" kind of cav?

Let's not forget the one bonus that Elsbeth's campaign can give them that makes them unkillable until half the unit's hp is gone
Makes me use them instead of demigryph knights in most of my late game armies

They seem like they might be useful for charging in and pinning a unit while, say, Outriders pepper the foe with shots. Also very interesting is the Tier 4 Chapterhouse building which gives them a bunch more stuff, but most notably? They don't die at all unless the whole unit reaches under 50%. Iron Resolve, I think, is the skill? They're quite a nice addition.

I don't like that they only have swords and no lances, but man they're too good to ignore. They're even better with a jade wizard to keep them above 50% health. Makes me wish that Reiksguard stood out more in the roster considering they're supposed to be the best of the best.
