Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 Sets Record | Ford Performance

During the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, CA, the Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1800 EV demonstrator reset the record for a full bodies EV drag car with a time of 7.759 second at 180MPH in the ¼ mile.

Yea...ev needs its own class of drag racing. We get it....Electric motors have a ton of torque...but there is no reason to run them against combustion engines. Totally different sport. And combustion engines will always be more fun from a competitive side and from a spectator side.

Just to give an idea of the power of these electrics. I recall back about 30-35 yrs ago when it was almost all private citizens doing this (to include the autonomous driving course challenges). There was this one country dude with an Anglia I believe, who tried using a direct drive system with 10" wide massive blower belts, I believe he had 4 on the axle...he absolutely shredded the belts. I believe the tires made a quick 1/5 of a rotation and coasted forward. I don't recall if he was using a standard trans? But this guy was pretty much the pioneer for electric drag racing.

There is no denying the performance from an EV but the only people enjoying a EV going done the tract is the driver. No one wants a microwave burger but, it's faster than a grilled one.
