Varroa mites are an external parasitic mite that has devastating effects on a honeybee colony. When faced with an varroa infestation, forager bees will naturally begin to socially distance in an effort to reduce the spread of mites throughout the colony.

Great lesson! I have always kind of felt like they did this. They do everything for the colony so it only makes sense that they distance themselves to protect the colony.
