James Cameron's opinion on Force Awakens

Filmmaker James Cameron gives his opinion on JJ Abrams' Star Wars Force Awakens. It's safe to say he hated it.

At least George tried to do something different with the prequels. I'd rather have that than rehashing the same old shit again.

I'm depressed that we will never get to see the TRUE third trilogy, from the mind of george lucas. Say what you will about the prequels, at least they were his vision for the star wars universe and they went in bold, wild directions rather than retread familiar territory

All the six films felt like a true story with a beginning, middle and end. The new trilogy is more of a fanfiction than an actual movie. I can go on why the Lucas films were better, but that would be a very long list. I will say, all six films felt connected while the new trilogy feels like a Non-Star Wars movie.

I see his point. Cameron is about innovation above all else.

As much as I enjoyed TFA, the more I've watched it, the more uncomfortable I am with how it just shamelessly retreaded the original. I love all the new characters and it DID make me happy from a nostalgia perspective, but so much more could have been done with the storyline.

I dislike the prequels intensely, but I respect what Lucas was trying to do. He refused to cater to nostalgia and pushed the envelope from a technological perspective.
