A brilliant filmmaker, screenwriter, story board artist, concept artist (he drew the original designs for both the Terminator and Alien Queen before passing it on to Stan Winston to build), miniatures designer, and so on. He's a maestro in so many areas. My all-time favourite director! Loved this video.

He's a genius because he looks at the human themes and metaphors behind science fiction stories. It's not just lasers and robots for fun. He goes beyond that and it shows on a subconscious level in the filmmaking craft (dialog, acting, editing etc)
