If H2CO3 breaks down into H+ and HCO3-, why would the pH decrease, shouldn't it remain the same ? As HCO3- buffer the H+.

so if you increase bicarbonate, you increase the amount of bound hydrogen ( decreasing the amount of free hydrogen). So PH rises despite more carbonic acid?
