Fun fact: in the comics, he, Zack and Trini becomes the Omega Rangers and act as a sort of Black Ops team for Zordon.

Jason was the Omega Red Ranger. In the comics, the peace conference was a ruse so not even his old team would know what his new team was doing.

Would just like to point out that, during the transfer of power episode, the powers and power coins were duplicated not actually transferred… or more technically they were only partially transferred… Jason, Zack, and Trini all kept there original powers and in the comics they went on special missions around the world… they were almost like secret rangers.

I could be mistaken but I also believe that in “Forever Red” Jason tells the others that he has always had the red power coin, he never had to give it up.

Giving the original red ranger leader from the OG show indefinite glory was the right move for the series Imo, Even though Tommy(RIP) took over as the Green/White ranger, this was well deserved for Jason and the story

So wanted to throw this in... In the MMPR Comic when Jason, Trini, and Zack went to the peace conference, they were actually sent on a secret mission by Zordon. They received crazy new suits as well but they were not as powerful as the original suits. Just a quick tie in i thought you'd might enjoy.

Jason is the "Steve Rogers" of the team, while Tommy is the "Tony Stark" of the team. In a reboot, this should be how they develop the characters.

Yeah, I'm super blown away at the amount of lore that little show came up with. It's a shame I lost interest so early but atleast the kids had something to share across the generation divide

I think I was 20 when MMPR released. Growing up watching Ultraman, Spectorman, and Space Giants, After a few episodes, I knew MMPR was going to be a huge hit for the 4-12 yr olds demo. The huge pay off is seeing your favorite rangers in the mega crossovers all Dino's, All Red, All Teams, etc... I didn't follow the show but I could only imagine how much lore this franchise had built leading up to those moments. Respect.

I was about nine / ten years old when original MMPR hit the television screens in the UK, and I instantly fell in love with Jason the Red Ranger. He was cool, charismatic, a leader, and controlled the Tyrannosaurus Rex Zoid.
What's not to love right?
I always hated Tommy / Green Ranger when he was introduced, precisely because I felt he was a rival for Jason's role, and had a cooler outfit with the armor he wore over his green ranger suit.
That's not me saying I hated the actor, who I hope rests in peace, but at the time, ten year old me did not appreciate the show muscling Jason out of his top spot role.
I was glad years later to learn he became Gold Ranger, as I felt that was giving the original team leader the respect he deserved.
