I'm usually a metal head and punk rocker but I've got a soft spot for old country. Anyone else?

Waylon and Willie: This is the way country music should have

My dad passed away when I was 10. It was back in 1981 and all thru my life, he’d throw me in the truck and go “drivin”. Just Oklahoma backroads listening to his Outlaws. Waylon bring his favorite. This song is imprinted on my soul. I’ve lost his face in my memory, but if I hear this song, I’m with him in the truck and somehow I see him again as we move on down the road.

Was a homeless youth sleeping in a 24 hour theatre. This song played every intermission. Grew to love this song.

The only two things in life that make it worth livin'
Is guitars that tune good and firm feelin' women
I don't need my name in the marquee lights
I got my song and I got you with me tonight
Maybe it's time we got back to the basics of love
Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin'
Got us feuding like the Hatfields and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs and
Newbury's train songs and "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain"
Out in Luckenbach, Texas, ain't nobody feelin' no pain
So baby, let's sell your diamond ring
Buy some boots and faded jeans and go away
This coat and tie is choking me
In your high society, you cry all day
We've been so busy keepin' up with the Jones
Four car garage and we're still building on
Maybe it's time we got back to the basics of love
Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin' got us feudin'
Like the Hatfield and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs and
Newbury's train songs and "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain"
Out in Luckenbach, Texas, ain't nobody feelin' no pain
Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
Willie and Waylon and the boys
This successful life we're livin's got us feudin'
Like the Hatfield and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs
And Jerry Jeff's train songs and "Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain"

I remember in my teens when we went to the music festival at Lukenbach Texas❤️ my parents are deceased now, I can see them dancing the two step again and making s’mores!

I was fortunate enough to learn the Guitar under Waylon back in 1972. I lived on the 1st floor he lived on the 2nd. 😎

Saw him in a Nashville Shoneys once. He called my daughter " little darlin'. " When he left he drove off in an old car with ' Jessi' on the front plate.

I like to thank my parents for making me listen to good old country music 70s and 80s.

If I should ever be asked by Stephen Colbert the one song I would listen to for the rest of my life (not continually, but when I go to listen to music... ) this would be the song. Not only because it is heartfelt in the lyrics and delivery. But it also evokes so many memories for me. My youth at country bars where live bands would cover this song, and being asked to dance by a good many country boys. My parents loved all those country legends. I grew up on Waylon and Conway and George Jones and Tammy Wynette, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Lefty Frizzell, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, all of them. That generation of country music was, and still is, awesome to listen to.

Was never really a big country music fan but this song has always been magical. Reminds me of a much simpler time when everyone seemed happier.

Ahhh ... This is the country music I grew up with back when country music was real. I love Waylon and miss him so much.

What a great natural voice Waylon had. Unlike the auto tuned garbage passing itself off as music now.

This is one song that will make a grown man cry! You know that a lot of singers used drugs and drank themselves to death! Many went down to the Crossroads and sold their souls! However, for all their tough times and lonely lives, looking for Love in all the wrong places! I hope the made their mends with Our Father all Almighty! Thank you to all the singers and musicians that brought joy to our lives! This song hits the Heart Hard! Thank you, Waylon! To all the Great singers of past eras, RIP!
