Luckenbach Texas

Luckenbach Texas is located about 13 miles from Fredericksburg in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. It is famous for it's General Store, Dance Hall, Beer Garden and as a Country Music Venue.

The town of Luckenbach itself only has 13 full time residents, but you will find many more people there on a warm Texas day. The General Store and Saloon were opened in 1849.

Luckenbach hit the national spotlight with Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson's song, "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)". Luckenbach is also known for holding Willie Nelson's Fourth of July Picnic.

While you do see a Post Office sign above the General store, the post office was closed on April 30, 1971 and its zip code was retired.

The General Store and Saloon was originally opened by Minna Engel when the community was first named Grape Creek. The name Luckenbach came from Minna's husband Carl Albert Luckenbach. They later moved to another town which was also named after him called "Albert, Texas".

In the past 6 years, our son, Matt Rogers has had 3 # 1 hits (We Went, Freedom was a Highway, and 'Til you Can't)and one Platinum selling hit (The Long Way) in the U.S. and 4 #1s in Canadian Country.
No one has ever mentioned his name on any award or TV performance of his songs---until Cody just did it on Monday, thanking the writers of this song, Matt Rogers and Ben Stennis. Great gesture. Thank you Cody!

Was there yesterday with some friends. Gentlemen playing on outdoor stage is Ben beckendorf. His band was playing the blues festival in the dancehall. Was so good, I had trouble holding back tears. Highly recommend.

A must for all Texans. That said, I visited last year, after a 32-year absence and I have to admit, it has lost a lot of its charm, since my last visit in 1989. Still, it has a pull that is difficult to resist.
