As a veteran, I could tell a different story.

With a standing army of 75, 000 soldiers, the British army would have been unable to fight the battle of Bakhmut, not just because it would have ran out of ammo with weeks (MoD's own admission). War has come to the European theater once more, and only a standing army in the hundreds of thousands like we had in the Cold War, is going to be anything other than a well trained speed bump.

But you cannot have that without being prepared to pay for it, and there just seems to be no appetite for it. So just as we were in the 1930's, we'll just have to hope the war in Ukraine, middle east and East Asia do not escalate, because that went so well last time of course...

Let me point out all the problems here:
- Britain doesn't have the industry to sustain a war or even equip its armed forces
- We don't have the kit or ammo to fight for even 3 months against a big country
- Our force hasn't got enough manpower because the recruitment is more woke than the average 2024 university graduate
- Money gets spent on futuristic Battlefield 2042 stuff when we can't even afford 200 tanks
- Anything good we did have is about to or has already been blown up in Ukraine (Why? Because that's what NATO does)
- The armed forces are so dependent on our allies we look like 9 year olds asking for help from their parents to do their maths homework
And finally, the most significant one is: The enemy isn't on the outside but on the inside.

Technology . innervation . all well and good, but it will come down to manpower in the end to see all of this through, and that's where the biggest hurdle will be for a future warfighting Army in the UK, that on outward appearances, appears to be going backwards . and if one thinks that Ukraine is having a hard time getting patriotic men to fight for their country, can we honestly believe that . example Lord Kitchener's, your country needs you poster, will resonate with this countries young men today ! in a time of need,

To all the naysayers stop comparing the size of Britain's forces or its military budget to that of America! I'm pretty sure if we didn't have a full universal health and welfare system to pay for and if we had a 30 trillion pound deficit we could have a massive military that we don't actually need too!
