While I have seen the movie and know that certain elements were 'Hollywoodized' to add drama, nothing really needed to be changed during the forced water landing part of the film. Some in these comments say what Sully did was 'easy', and that conditions were perfect. As a Military pilot for over twenty years I can tell you that what Sully did was extraordinary. A water landing in a commercial multi engine aircraft is a nightmare because of everything the pilot has to get exactly right. Too fast, the plane will either bounce or flip, too flat the engines will dig into the water and the plane will break up, too slow or too much flare and plane stalls, the tail impacts the water first and the plane cart wheels and breaks up. In every circumstance except the perfect manoeuvre very bad things happen to the plane and passengers. Its called 'Miracle on the Hudson' for a reason, don't belittle the achievement.

How in the world is this plane still floating with two sets of steel balls in the cockpit?

Pull up, too low terrain, Pull up must be the scariest thing to hear as a pilot.

The fact Sully had one chance to do it exactly as it it needed to be done, not one mistake, and did it, is absolutely incredible.

Captain Sullenberger was asked if he prayed while he was in this crisis.

He said, no, he was focused on doing his job; that he hoped that someone in the back would handle that for him.

Tom Hanks just is so unlucky with transportation isn’t he, think about it, Apollo 13, Castaway, and now this movie

Love how sully starts ignoring the control tower and focusing on landing correctly after he knows hes going to hit the river.

The fact you can hear the flight attendants shouting the "brace brace brace" just puts chills down my back.

I find it funny how Sully in reality was more calm than Tom Hanks. Just go listen to the ATC audio and the way he says "Unable" He's just ice cold calm. Almost no emotion in his voice.

I know Sully was a hero but can we give props to his copilot for remaining calm as well, he had faith in Sully and knew he needed to do his job to help, both of them are heroes

Can you imagine being one of the people who actually saw the plane fly that low? Must have thought another 9/11 was about to happen

I like the part in the film where this guy said, "You know, it's been a while since New York had news this good... especially with an airplane in it." One of my favorite movies!

That moment when he turned the plane away from the city still gives me insane chills. He was given a choice try to reach somewhere to land and rick thousands people below, or save the city and go for a miracle.

The engineers who designed that machine probably felt pretty chuffed about this miracle as well. Those pilots did the most amazing job flying it perfectly, but their Airbus also held together like a champion for an incredibly stressful landing and worked exactly as intended to the very end. Only one engine came off due to the impact and the rest was mostly intact.

Amazing aircraft flown by two brilliant pilots.

155 saved as a result.

The thing I love most about this scene is that Skiles keeps working through the QRH, trying to get the engines restarted, right up until the last minute before impact. Not panicking, just trying to keep finding solutions right up to the end. As they say at NASA, "Work the problem."

10 years ago today, Captain Chesley Sullenberger together with his copilot Jeff Skiles landed US Airways flight 1549 on the Hudson River in New York

The ‘we’re gonna be in the Hudson’ is genuinely one of the most iconic lines of the film
