Leopard sharks are houndsharks found along the eastern coasts of the Pacific ocean from Oregon to the Gulf of California. They're well known for their appearance around La Jolla shores where people can snorkel with leopard sharks. Leopard sharks are typically easy to identify by their prominent dark saddle markings. Leopard sharks are mostly coastal sharks and prefer to swim in estuaries where water is mixed with incoming freshwater from rivers. Unlike the animals of their namesake, leopard sharks are generally quite timid. Leopard sharks are harmless to humans... unless they get eaten. They are said to have tasty meat, though it's ill advised to eat them as they can be contaminated with mercury and other poisonous substances which would make which would make leopard sharks poisonous and dangerous to consume! Otherwise, though, leopard sharks are not dangerous to humans!

Range: eastern Pacific from Oregon to the Gulf of California
Size: average between 20 and 50 inches (51-127cm), up to 6 feet (1.8m)
Diet: crabs, shrimp, octopuses, fish, etc.
Lifespan: average of 20 years

They’re legal to fish for in California 36 inches or bigger to keep . I never kept any just catch and release . Beautiful shark though.

Because Zebra sharks gets its name from its Zebra like stripes when they’re baby but the Stripes fades into leopard like spots as it grow
Also, Leopard sharks are related to houndsharks while zebra sharks are related to the carpet sharks like whale sharks
