Brother, I’ve listened to several of your videos and I want to say “ Thank You” for clearing many things up !!!! Yes, I attend and always have attended the Baptist Church but am not sold out to the notion or belief that the Baptist Church is the only true entity, in fact the modern Baptist churches in many parts of this country have clearly lost their way I’m afraid ! That aside, I just am refreshed to hear your teachings and pray you continue to spread the Gospel of Christ in its purity !!!

Was wondering if this verse means they would have believed in vain if the resurrection weren’t true? Paul goes onto repeat the gospel with eyewitness verification to prove perhaps they didn’t believe in vain as this is true. Christ is risen indeed!

I remember hearing someone say that in a video once. It stuck in my mind as these things tend to do. He answered a question about what would happen to someone who was not elect, and yet believed Christ was raised. He said they must have believed in vain. This statement would come into my mind during episodes of doubt. These sort of people should be struck dumb, when they put out such destructive words. Harse but true. They do untold damage to the body of Christ. To me they are worse than Word Faith teachers. I can easily discard that nonsense. Its the more subtle things that stick in my mind and depress the spirit. Thank you for rightly dividing the Word of Truth.

In vain means useless. A saving faith is the farthest thing from useless. If he meant you didn't maximize or fully capitalize on your faith he would have/should have said that. He didn't, he said "in vain".

Amen! Keeping the gospel in memory is a work. We are not positionally saved by our works. The salvation referenced in 1 Corinthians 15:2 is an experiential salvation and not a positional salvation. The Corinthians were already positionally saved. The beginning of 1 Corinthians chapter 15 presents the gospel within the context of discipleship. The Corinthians were treasuring worldly gains too much when it is more expedient to treasure heavenly gains. I believe the Apostle Paul was reminding them of what the resurrection means for them and encouraging them to keep the gospel in memory in an effort to get them more focused on treasuring heavenly gains.

Matthew 6:19-21 KJV
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

I believe that what this means is to believe without the effect of being saved by God's grace and a way in which one can believe in vain is by believing in the gospel + something else.

I did a study in this and it seems to be believing but with some error in the belief therefore they aren't saved, like not believing that Jesus is God or that his payment alone is sufficient.

It’s always the lack of context…ALWAYS

I think people forget who is the one that KEEPS US … we don’t keep ourselves … once we have believed and truly believed it is VERY HARD …. Impossible to NOT BELIEVE…. Unless u never believed in the FIRST PLACE (in vain)

I think Paul was saying "belief in vain" is equal to fooling yourself. Those who think they are children of God, but reject the resurection, are really "believing in vain".

A belief in vain cannot lead to heaven, so Paul was extorting the importance of the ressurection and explaining any who deny it are fakes, not real Christians, their belief is in vain if they reject a risen Jesus

I appreciate this video. But I see people bringing up the 2nd part if 1 Cor 15:2 “if ye keep in memory what I preached into you”. Could you talk about that please? It is used often as an argument against OSAS and I’m not confident in my answer.

#bibleline when it comes to a person who is saved what is the meaning of if we don't speak of Jesus in public that he would deny us to the father

Do you believe that a person must believe the facts of the death, burial, and resurrection to be saved, or can they simply believe in Jesus (of the bible) for eternal life and understand the facts of how He saved them later? My argument has always been that a young child or a mentally disabled person might not understand the concept of crosses and nails, but they can still trust in Jesus for eternal life. So, if they can be saved that way, why can't everybody else be saved the same way?

People far too often make up their own version of what believing in vain means, yet it tells you exactly what it is 10 verses later in verses 12-14

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain

People that don’t believe Jesus rose from the dead believe in vain. An example of this is Islam. They believe Jesus was a prophet, but don’t believe he is the son of God this did not rise from the dead

Islam follows believe in vain

I've encountered someone, who equated believing in vain with works. That if you aren't doing them after you're saved, then you aren't really saved. Harry Ironside, in a commentary, essentially said the same thing. But further in the chapter, it talks about people not believing in the resurrection. Especially starting in verse 12 and in a lot of the following verses. The word 'vain' is stated again, in verses 14 and 17. These verses seem to equate to what he's talking about in verse 2. I don't know how the one I talked with and Harry Ironside, get works out of the word vain in verse 2.

Satan has been diluting, distorting, and debunking the gospel since the gospel was preached. Satan works to keep people from hearing the truth of the gosepl by offering false gospels and false Christs. Satan is a liar and the father of lies. Believe in the one true gospel, the one true Christ, the one true G-d.

What "unless you believed in vain" means if found in verses 12-18:

Now if Christ is preached as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised; if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified of God that He raised Christ, whom He did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. Then they who are in Christ which are now fallen asleep have perished. (1 Corinthians 15:12-18)
