Viego lore and TL;DR version below in case you didn't understand the quotes. Also, apologies for being late, I've been a bit busy lately, but glad to see our favorite quote channel is back! :)

In a kingdom now forgotten there was a second son to a dynastic king, his name was Viego, the man who would bring about the Ruination. He was never destined to lead, that was what his older brother was for... until he died unexpectedly. Now king to a kingdom he never expected to lead and was a poor leader who didn't much care for his position. One day, Viego came across a poor, young seamstress and was so drawn in by her beauty that he asked her to marry him, she the seamstress, was named Isolde. Viego never cared much for anyone else other than himself until Isolde came along, he showered her with gifts and when the two were in a room together, his attention could rarely break away from her. Viego's allies were furious, they were angered that he couldn't even lead his nation, so they began to plot in secret to end the king's reign, but his enemies... struck first. An assassin's dagger was thrown, it's intent to kill Viego, but his general, Kalista, deflected the dagger and it instead grazed his beloved queen. Viego would stop at nothing to save her, his search for a cure was relentless, desperate and eventually became his downfall, he sent Kalista to find a cure. He locked himself away in his tower with the body of his wife and became terrible and cruel. In this time of weakness, his guard Hecarim, took advantage to get closer to him, he blamed the death of his wife on the outskirts of the kingdom and he massacred them while Kalista searched for the cure in distant lands. When Kalista finally returned, Viego demanded answers, but when she saw the corpse, she knew nothing could be done. She was locked away until Hecarim eventually persuaded her to tell the king of the Blessed Isles. So they sailed, Kalista showed them the way and the king slaughtered a peaceful people until their march took them to the vault, where Viego ordered Kalista to kill the monks that blocked the way, she refused, so she was stabbed through the back with Hecarim's spear, and so they continued until they reached the Waters of Life, where the Chain Warden opened the way, eager to see more suffering unfold in his cruel sadism. He gently gave Isolde to the waters and she returned, only for a moment before she became a twisted wraith, a mockery of her previous form and in her confusion she took the king's heart once again, by running it through with his own blade. The magic of the waters and the enchanted blade clashed, and the shockwave tore across the Isles with relentless force, trapping the land in undeath, driving the land itself into madness, birthing the Black Mist. And what of Viego? he remembers nothing of what happened in the vault, only that he returned. Viego will stop at nothing, even if it means tearing apart the veil between life and death to have his queen returned to him. The Ruination has not ended yet, it has only begun, and in the end all will kneel before the Ruined King in life, and in eternal undeath.

*TL;DR:* Viego becomes king after his brother dies unexpectedly. He meets his wife, Isolde and becomes distracted with his duties as king. An assassin's dagger poisons Isolde and drives Viego insane with grief, he sends Kalista on a quest to find a cure for death. She returns and tells him about the Blessed Isles where he slaughters the people of the Isles until he reaches the vault where the Waters of Life were. He gives Isolde to the waters and in her confusion of being torn from death she kills Viego but he doesn't remember that. Viego has returned with his intent to have Isolde returned to him at any cost, even if that cost is the world.

fun facts:
1. The forgotten kingdom was named Camavor, I gave it the title "forgotten" because other than the name and that it's where Viego is from, we don't know anything about it, even it's location is a mystery.
2. The "Chain Warden" I mentioned was Thresh, I used that nickname as a literary device.
3. Some on the Isles are not dead, Yorick and Maokai are the only ones who remain alive, even if Yorick refers to himself as "half-dead, " he technically is not undead.
4. Isolde's soul is currently split into many different fragments, one of which is within Gwen and one that was taken from Senna, she currently fights against Viego because she knows he's now far from the Viego she once knew.

Edit: Happy Birthday JAN! (I know I'm like two days late but still)

"Her eyes were portraits of a world without my cruelty"

Damn this sounds so poetic

The VA has done an amazing job. You can really hear the anger and desperation of a man who has tried everything and yet has hope that the next atrocity he commits will bring his love back.

3:40 Quote to the Kindred! I love that detail, to recognize the Kindred as death and to hold them responsible!

I think Volibear would make a great video. He’s got a great mix of intense and melancholic lines.

i must say that Reqiuem: Lacrimosa by Mozart fits so well, where it plays bc viego starts getting more and more angry and frustated. It just fits too well mate. Well done.

What Viego say at 0:11 is actually a reference to one of Davy Jones iconic line, "love, a dreadful bond and yet, so easily severed" and Viego is likely a combination or hybrid between Darth Vader and Davy Jones plus he even strongly resemble Hayden Christensen, the actor of course known for playing as Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars prequel trilogy especially in the splash art

I loved that lacrimosa is playing in the background and the VA did such a great job. Both things covey the feeling of Viego. Great video
