"You cannot be sick if you are dead."

Genius move.

I have heard that these toxic bowel movements have actually aided in tracing the path of the explorers because there are still detectable traces left to this day.

"I am tipsy but I do not care!"
Yes. This is the feeling when I've been spending the last night and today making Christmas foods. The only things keeping me going are a bottle of rum and 2 bottles of Coke. Hey, hey, hey, I'm a man with a plan, the plan is to booze as much as I can!

Honestly in those days probably worth a gamble, an infection was lethal so having a poison that you might survive is better than an infection so bad you know you wont.

This is something I think about very often. Imagine how miserable it is to be sick. When you can bundle up in blankets. Take a hot shower. Hide from the elements and Shit and puke in your own bathroom? Now imagine doing all that in the woods all the time. I don’t know that I’d want to make it.

"At the time of the Louisiana purchase"

You can tell he is tipsy. That sentence was hard for him to say

my grandfather was a pharmacist his whole life. He said every medication ever is poisonous, its all about finding the dose that solves your problem without killing you

the Louisiana purchase was made possible by a guy named Tousaine L'vetuire (probably mispelled that lol)
-- who led a slave revolt in Haiti (1795-1803*)
which when Haiti was then not a French holding any longer (which was their primary need for the Louisiana Territory*)
because it was a way to provide food for the slave breeding operations happening in Haiti!
so after the revolt they just had this big piece of land that they had no use for and decided to sell it to the United States!!

i've heard we can trace the expeditioners' exact course just by looking for mercury

Trade one evil for another, the literal lesser of two evils. That's wild man. 🤯

Plus the mercury would make you feel all nice and tingly too... but that turned out to be nerve damage

Mercury metal isn't necessarily bad (still bad), it is the mercury salts (especially soluble forms) that are terrifying. I am fine with the metal, I just don't want to work with any salt forms of it, or vaporized mercury.

Health experts in the 1800s be like: all studies show that mercury is a very capable antibiotic and you shouldn't question anything we say.
