Uno is a great option especially for the beginners. If one wants to make circuits on breadboard WITHOUT shields, Nano is another Arduino board worth considering.
Same microcontroller, thus most things mentioned in this video will apply.

12:40 regarding the "Analog In" part of the arduino, where the pins are from A0 to A5....these pins can be used as Digital pins also!
This can be done by using them with their digital name, ie 14-19 (as an extention of digital pins)

Correction, you can use the analog pins as digital input or output as well.

Does the VIN pin, by default, simply pass the input voltage out? Or do you have to program this? And is it configurable? Can I push 3.3 or 5 out of the VIN pin if my power supply is 9v?
