Surf Wax HACK (Jamie O'Brien does this)

Jamie O'Brien revealed this weird trick on his blog recently, and it actually works really well.

Removing most of the wax on your surfboard is easy... just leave it out in the sun for a few minutes, and scrape the soft wax off.
BUT if you're going to put a traction pad where your wax used to be (like if you're adding a front traction pad), then you need to make sure EVERY little bit of wax is removed.

If any wax or residue is left on your surfboard, your traction pads won't properly stick to the board, and they will fall off or peel off when you surf.

I watched this video and learned the flour trick. Works great. I didn’t have panty hose so I just used a terry towel and sprinkled the flour on it and wiped down the board like that. I was amazed at how well it worked. I could feel the board go from tacky to clean and dry. Thanks Stevie!

FYI I used mineral spirits and paper towels to thin down the wax before using the flour.

Pro tip: rats and mice like to eat the flour, keep it in a plastic container. Ask me how I know.
