What To Expect Next Week in the FTC vs Microsoft Trial

The FTC vs Microsoft case will continue next week Tuesday with some testimony from Satya Nadella and other key executives from Microsoft on the stand expected. There's also a chance that we could still hear from Jim Ryan's testimony that Sony is currently trying to seal. The FTC vs Microsoft trial is still well underway and we can expect a lot more news about Xbox, Xbox strategy and hopefully some interesting revelations from the FTC. Bobby Kotick will also be testifying so it should get spicy.

Previously: The first day of the FTC vs Microsoft trial is underway and it certainly did not disappoint. Jim Ryan was caught lying, there were reveals about when the next generation of consoles will arrive, Indiana Jones was revealed to be an Xbox exclusive and that's just the tip of the iceberg. So much happened today that I thought I'd collect it all in one location.

This whole argument from Sony is literally Sony saying, 'You can't do what we do! That's not fair to be squeezed the way we squeeze others."

FTC: were are fighting for gamers.
Xbox players: we are gamers too!
FTC: we define gamers as individuals who play on a station.

Sony won’t send dev kits to MS, but The FTC complains about PS5 content parity?! This is pure comedy.

I expect the FTC to continue to make absolute fools of themselves

It's good that the judge recognised the trap the FTC were trying to set for Phil by getting him to promise CoD for Playstation *regardless of future terms*, and stopped them. Because if Phil had agreed to that, and then Sony either refused to have CoD on their platform, or made unreasonable demands (i.e. getting CoD for free or an unfair revenue split), then Phil would still be held liable for breaking his promise, even though it was Sony being unreasonable.

I had no idea that the role of the FTC was to act as attorneys for the market leader. Interesting twist.

Really enjoying your coverage of this trial. Crazy to me that the FTC is basically just defending PlayStation

There was a report showing that the FTC mentioned Sony/PS 72 times. They mentioned consumers 11 times. That’s how bad it’s going for them.

Edit: Regarding Minecraft, there isn’t even a native Series X/S version. So the whole Minecraft narrative isn’t even a valid point

If the FTC loses I have a strong feeling the CMA drops the case and rules in Microsoft's favor.

If the the FTC wants to promote fair competition then Jim Ryan should be in the hot seat.

Ftc has 0 reasons to block this.. besides sony. From the questions they ask it looks like is sony vs Microsoft and not Microsoft vs ftc! Corruption is soooo deep.. and that's why I am afraid the deal will fall :(

Can't Microsoft lawyers subpoena Jim Ryan to appear in court?

In my opinion what we can expect is the FTC getting called out for trying to stop an American company from competing with a Japanese company and being funded by American taxes.... Almost like someone in the FTC has stock in sony

What I like about your coverage is that you actually give your take on the whole situation, and explain what's happening. Most others I've seen just read Florian Muellers Tweets verbatim

I expect an open and shut case. How anyone can rule otherwise is beyond me after that damning email against PS case and therefore the FTCs floundering case as well. Guess we will see. Bias with PlayStation is criminal here . The FTC has no case.

At 4:26 when talking about Minecraft, important to note that the Xbox version is still the Xbone version of the game. It never got a Series S|X update.
