Rhinowalk: The Rackless Best Motorcycle Bags For The Money?

Gear Review | I wanted to keep the weight down on my KTM 790 Adventure R, where possible. One way I did that was by forgoing a rack system for my Nelson Rigg Hurrican Panniers. I found that options are limited when you are looking for durable waterproof soft bags that do not cost an arm and a leg. I found the Rhinowalk 48L on sale and decided to buy them for my trip to Nova Scotia. - Frank

I'm using the 14 litre per side version with a 10 litre Rhinowalk tail bag and my tent strapped across the top. I come from a long history of ultralight backpacking so, 38 litres is more than enough space for me. My smaller saddlebags are holding up very well but, of course since they are smaller they carry less weight. I would happily buy them again if they were lost or stolen.

One suggestion: pack your tent, poles, tarp, chair and rain gear in a small duffel ahead of the rear box. NONE of these need to be in a waterproof pannier - which means you can compress the side panniers more or use the smaller versions. All are handy to access in the small duffel. NONE are needed if you stay in a motel along the way.

Another option - "21 Brothers" out of Poland makes some nice gear, and much cheaper than the US counterparts. I ordered the "Pocket" rackless bags, they have been great.

Frank! This is one of your best reviews! Glad you like having the tarp with you! I have the larger Rinowalk bags and they are great but at 48 liters per side, they are a little too large. I Abe getting the smaller size like you have. I like your load out of camping gear! Great job on this video!

thanks for this review. I was considering these for the 390 but had reservations about quality. You opinion is solid and you helped me make a choice.

Great review. Just what I needed to see. I agree with you, there are not really great choices that don't cost an arm and a leg for rackless luggage. If only these had molle webbing. Another note, I have the Giant Loop Great Basin and I hate it. It's hard to pack, it carries it's weight very high and doesn't really hold all that much. Rhinowalk might find it's way on to the T7.

I was looking for a "travel set" of bags to a) carry my stuff on the plane ...and b) throw it on my rental bike (and avoid any extra charges for pannier rental. The price point of these is excellent and easily pays for the rental-fee avoidance! Great vid, thank you very much.

Great video Frank, personally I would get a set of these bags as you can fit a lot of stuff. My son gifted me a Kriega set that can’t hold as much stuff. Thanks for sharing!

FRANK !!!! - For me - this was my favorite review by far !!!! - This is going to help A LOT of people !!! - I have a set also and absolutely love them. They were a "PRIZE" from my brother - THE MIGHTY DOC 650 !!! - You will be seeing them in an upcoming video - Hopefully soon. I also have the exact same heat shield on my exhaust.

Love you my brother - Just a great job on the video BTW, I think I'd put that EXTRA "para-chord" back in there.... Never know when you may come across a stranded Harley, and the guy has no Duct Tape or Bubble Gum left over.... Just

My 2x 24L bags arrived today.
They look similar quality to Lomo bags but much easier to attach. Mine were half the list price here in the UK at £70.
I plan to use them on my Crf300l and TTR600.
Great review 👍

I have the RhinoWalk bags in 14L on each side. The bags themselves are far superior to the Giant Loop Mojavi bags I have in that they are larger and waterproof. Like you I suspect the quality of the straps. I’m not sure I have attached the bags to the WR250R the same twice. If there is a way I’m supposed to do it, I haven’t figured it out. I don’t camp, but carry a front tube, irons, tools, water snacks, rain gear and the other odds and ends I used to carry in a tank bag. I still have room. I don’t remember the cost of the bags but I think I got them for around $100 on an Amazon sale. As a note - I leave my Tusk pannier racks on all the time.

Rewatching this, the smaller width of the straps shouldn’t be a worry. We used to buy webbing that sized and tie desks, tabletops etc to the walls of our delivery truck when I was a systems furniture installer. NEVER had a strap that size break. Thousands of pounds being held against the wall in city and interstate driving

HI Frank, thank you for such a thorough review on the Rhinowalk bags. I had been waiting for a review on these after seeing them on your trip blogs. You definitely put them through the wringer, over the 5-week period. I apricate your review on gear, good or bad. BTW ... that DOC650 is the master of tents, tarps and twine, and a heck of a nice guy too.
