Omo valley Mursi Tribe Feb 2020

A trip to south western Ethiopia not to be forgotten nor for the faint of heart. These women are from the Mursi tribe located in Mago national park. They have a tradition which is optional to 15 year old girls of making their lips like this. This tradition has been described as caused by two possible senarios. First by the slave trade when the men wanted to make their women undesirable by deforming the women to make them unattractive to slave traders. The other scenario is that the men actually now find them most attractive when the women wear the larger lip plates. Not so sure what to do with them when we got home .......... We camped next to their village and had fresh killed chicken, and goat cheese for dinner. As an Ethiopian and most of all African I'm very proud of them and envy of them. They are on their tradition, on their confidence, on their belief and attached to the nature.
Most of us live in the city admire western technology and surrender for their belief loose ourselves
