A car dealership can end up with more gross revenue over a 24hr period if they sell every car for 5-10K under sticker and clear the lot. It doesn't mean it's a good business move. The same principle applies to Dashing and other gig work. Sure you can accept everything including those $2.50 seven mile orders. You'll do orders all day and gross more, but in the end you're doing transactions that aren't profitable, which is a losing strategy. It's simple, gross revenue means nothing if you're operating at a loss.

What cherry pickers won't tell you:

you're out just as long and if you dont time your market and position yourself right you MAY actually average significantly less than someone accepting anything.

Cherry picking Pro: you keep your expenses low and can make $40 an hour.
Cherry picking Con: it's very market and location dependant. you may end up decling most offers and only make $8-$12 an hour.

As a part time cherry picker, you have to accept that there are only few really good hours a week and that youre not always going to time the market perfectly.

When I say I can't afford to be a Top Dasher in my market right now, that's exactly why. Gross revenue means nothing to me. In the end it's about profit after expenses. But you're also right that it's market dependent. Folks in a smaller or less active area may need higher AR to get any orders at all, especially if they need to work during popular daytime hours. In busy urban areas where convenience is king, it may not matter as much. We just have to know our markets and do what works for us where we are.

Been cherry-picking since the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Since then, I'd done some CRAZY numbers! Weekends alone, I make $1, 500 if I work 8hrs/day on Fri/Sat/Sun. Yup. I don't work most weeks in Phoenix, as I kick back and do other things in the garage or whatever. All of my videos on my channel show exactly how/why I cherry-pick - and my system works for me.

If you work 2 platforms, Lyft and Uber, use one to accept all requests, the other to cherry pick. I like working Lyft when there's some bonus and I can accept short, profitable fares.

As an odd example sometimes I get in a weird mood and don't want to work. Watching Netflix videos, texting, calling friends while sitting in my Tesla. With lyft lux black only turned on and wait for the $80 ride and at this point it seems worth it! 25min ride for $80 for 22miles is great. But oddly that's 4hrs making only $20/hr. It's all relative to what you want to accomplish. All your points are well spoken and matches my experience in delivery and RS.

I'm a mix de cherry picker early on the morning, using those $30/$40 run to the airport and after 7 am when traffic become crazy, I stay on my city and around doing almost everything +$7 and close to the mile around me. But all depend the day and my humor. I do just green and comfort uber, no doordash or package delivery

I am a cherry picker and I multi-app. I have been doing this for 2 years, I cannot tell you the last time my AR was above 50%. I work part-time 15 to 20 hours a week and I must say I do pretty good. If it works in my market and it does good then don't fix it!!!!

I.E. Work Smarter not Harder!
Unless I am mistaken; (correct me if I am) if low ball orders are not delivered then the delivery company owes a refund to the merchant who likely refunded the customer. So the refund is a loss i.e. a tax deduction! for the restaurant and delivery company. If reasonable compensation for delivery is what it takes to get drivers to deliver then there needs to be better pay. Once I had a driver tell the order taker to take the order and he would be happy to go the extra distance because I always tip him well. I never had a problem with the order taker at that restaurant again! That was back in the day when $5 was a great tip. I never tip less $10 to a driver who delivers to me now days. I would not insult them by tipping less. Sometimes I tip more especially around holidays! The delivery drivers, waiters and waitresses who take care of my family treat us well because we treat them with respect and tip well. That's the way it should be. Not asking here for any more than we give. It's all about RESPECT!

I hear you all talking about 20, 25+ an hour average. In the Houston area you have to cherry pick. 60-70% of the orders coming in are under $5 and less than a dollar an mile. I don't think I am at all being unreasonable asking for at least a dollar a mile and no trips under $5. I cherry pic and still struggle to average between $18-20 an hour.

I am definitely a cherry picker when it comes to orders. Distance vs. payout are my deciding factors when taking orders. Recently ive run into customers canceling during the drive or as i pull up to their house in hopes of getting free food. Luckily no customers have gotten free food off of me.

Gig driver for 6 and a half years

25000 Uber rides

9, 900 lyft rides

Diamond Dash driver

My advice from a DMV driver… cherry pick with McDonald’s orders or fast food orders …

Pick up all Thai food orders … they pay well and tip well

You are 100 percent correct. I began cherry picking and found that Im putting less miles on. For uber if you take everything you will end up 100 miles away from your house everytime. A lot of wasted gas and far too many miles. Doordash is a little different as most of the orders stay within your zone. I tried maintaining top dasher in my area but lost it due to not reaching 100 deliveries a month. There is a difference. without it its impossible to make anything

The difference between cash flow and real profit is the difference between being busy versus being productive.

Doordash doesn't allow me to cherry pick, If I keep declining orders then doordash will not give me anything at all.

To show how you're doing just make a log entry like this:
$175/98mi/6hrs
Knowing your car costs are 0.25/mi you can quickly Calc your Tru profit and dollars per hour!
