Lathe Compound Mods for Multifix Tool Post

Показать описание
I'll share how to properly modify a lathe compound slide for mounting a PeWE Tools Multifix type tool post. According to the inventors of this style of tool post, you need to have the post body pulled down to a solid surface, not over a gap like you typically seen with the wedge styles.

I’ve been a machinist for 18 years and I still love it. That KBC is a really good little mill. Love the videos sir!

Love your approach and the common-sense explanation of the processes you use to get the job done right!

Adam, you made that drilling and tapping process for the T nut look so easy. In my experience, its always done with effort and with some trepidation ! Thanks for the video.

Man! I can’t believe what great surface finishes you get Adam with the tooling and speeds & feeds you select. Really nice👌 And also, great video. I have ADHD, so with the way you create your videos, they move along nicely. So therefore it keeps my attention. With my ADHD, if videos are not concise and informative, I lose interest. Your videos keep me captivated….thankyou👍🙂

@abom79, That was an Awesome Video Adam! As soon as I get my Precision Matthews 1660TL I will be hiring you to perform the exact same job for me. Great Job!

Do you think the 0.003 was from the dovetail? Did you try tightening the dovetail wedge?

Why wasn't the top of the compound, surface ground? I just subscribed with max bell.
Very good fit on the tool post thread. Thanks for the machine work.
Do you ever use thread gauges for checking the fits of precision threads? Otherwise, I will continue to view to see your work. I was a CNC machinist much of my life before retiring and I also had a toolroom shop at home where I did custom work.
See you tomorrow.

18:00 Since the part was so perfect in the vise, I would have shimmed up the whole vise.

So, my question is, did you measure the thickness on both sides of the slide to see if it was the same? I can see why you shimmed it to replicate the top's original plane. But if it was out of parallel originally from the factory, wouldn't you want to correct that?

Hi Adam
What do you think of a thread micrometer?

Could the parallelism be affected by the gib not being fully seated? After all the drop shown on the indicator is on the same side as the gib on the topslide.

Hi,
What camera do you use for these beautiful images?
Thank you

So what angle do you set the compound to before you pin the multifix tool post holder? 30 degrees for threading?

Thank you very much... Lots of great info for me to use

This doesn’t require a thrust bearing like the bigger one on the pacemaker?

If that was my vise I’d just have to flip that sucker over and machine the base perfectly parallel to the top.
