The University of Michigan (U-M) students released the first comprehensive sustainability assessment of flying cars, a study which was conducted in partnership with the Ford Motor Company. U-M School for Environment and Sustainability (SEAS) master's students specializing in Sustainable Systems were the lead authors of the paper.

In this partnership, students worked across disciplines, including engineering, material sciences, and business, to guide the deployment of cutting-edge technology through a sustainability lens before it even goes to market. Their paper, entitled "Role of flying cars in sustainable mobility," was accepted by Nature Communications and is receiving mainstream media attention from outlets like Popular Science and CNN.

In this video, SEAS master's student and first author of the study, Akshat Kasliwal, discusses the findings of the research with co-authors Noah Furbush, a master's student at the U-M College of Engineering, Jim Gawron, a master’s student at SEAS and the Ross School of Business through the Erb Institute, and Greg Keoleian, senior author of the study, professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Systems at SEAS.
