I've been here since your DFW days. I bet I watched your original video on wainscot and crown moulding 10 times. Listened to EXACTLY what you out bought my first Dewalt Cordless Dual Miter Saw and Table Saw exactly like your set up and went to work. It took me a few months, but i install crown in my entire house and finished the project with walls of wainscot throughout. You were a great teacher and gave me the confidence to take it all on! Never underestimate a girl and her power tools!

As a mechanic since 2004 I highly recommend makita impact drivers and rest of makitas tool lineup.
Makita honestly hasn't steered me wrong

I’ve absolutely been watching you since you were DFW crown. Your videos are amazing and so thorough!! Watched your 63 degree cutting by starting off with using two 45 cut boards. 😳😳this construction woman in North Pole AK…is getting so many tips and tricks from you!! Thank you for taking time to teach us so many tricks!!! 🥰

We started with the Makita track saw (after being heavily influenced by Scott Brown) and we’re now Makita mad (in a good way). Great choice. 👍🏽

Hi RICHARD, I have the 10" model & love it! But only after some slight modifications out-of-the-box. I had to adjust the rails to get them to slide perfectly square on a long cross cut.
Get yourself a Stene detent plate.
I love the soft startup and how smooth it is to run. It doesn't jump on Startup like the 780.
Keep up the good work.

I was here in the beginning of dfw crown. I found it cool when you were showing the router and bits when you where making crown and wainscoting. I can’t wait for you to organize and start making in the new garage/workshop.

Bought a Makita corded 1/2” chuck drill with percussion feature in 1979. Started my carpentry/building business in 1980. The drill has been through hell and the switch is original. Never a problem. 42 years of service and counting. Congrats on new home and your channel. You ROCK. Dave Heitman in Omaha dba Dave the Carpenter

I have the same saw. I would recommend getting the larger 6.0 batteries 4 of ‘‘em would keep you rocking all day long. You can also adjust the which side of the saw blade the laser falls on with the little dial on the top front of guard. It unscrews and can be pushed to left or right and retightened.

A few POTENTIAL ISSUES on this saw:

1. Might not cut straight - This is a weird one on these saws. The head doesn't always travel parallel to the two slide bars. You end up with a shallow C-shaped cut. The "fix" is to unscrew the (tight) allen head bolts at the front end cap of the rail, put a board between the rails and twist slightly, re-tighten the screws, cut a new piece and repeat until it cus straight on a slide.

2. The aluminum miter plate notches wear quickly - You can't do much about this to prevent it but be careful when turning past the notches. Stene wooodwork does make a stainless replacement, but I think it is close to $100. I believe replacement plates from Makita are much less.

3. Dust Collection increases depth requirement - May need a bot mroe depth with dust collection in place...and in a home shop, dust collection can be a lot more desirable.

4. Need to remove fences to bevel - Not a defect, but perhaps annoying.

5. Laser not as great as shadow line

As others have noted, Makita introduced its 40 volt XGT platform this year. They have an 8 1/2" and 10" model out and I suspect the 12" is on its way. Honestly, there aren't a lot of differences on the 10" (other than the battery) which is essentially the same as this 12" but smaller, but they do appear to have addressed the aluminum miter plate issue and have converted to a shadow line instead of laser. Of course, the XGT platform is also commanding a hefty price premium!

I have an older version of the Makita miter saw, love it. It has been used and abused, still works great. The Makita charger runs air through the battery while charging, which allows them to charge faster.

The sliding rail will rust in one and half years. That is MAKITA.

Makita makes a seriously good cordless miter saw. Can’t wait to hear what you think in 6 months. Grats on the new home!

Have the same model…luckily bought at a pallet store…got for half off…had everything but the blade. Sold a 10” Makita for years but sold it when sold home. Have a 7.25 Dewalt cordless miter and it does fine for 95% of work but when it can’t…it really can’t. You’re right…this is a beast!! Won’t be moving mine much, but about to get a mobile stand for it. Enjoy!! Look forward to seeing any tips you have in the future.

Hi Richard. I’ve been watching since the DFW days. Still love the content. I’m a FESTOOL guy myself but best of luck with the mitre saw and welcome to the land of cabinet making.

Hi, I’m a finish carpenter, on my 23rd year in the industry, I actually have and use this exact miter saw AND I LOVE IT!! I’ve been using it for just under a year now and the only down side is it’s heavy, other then that it cuts true on every different miter.

Been watching since way back when you were using the miter saw without the blade guard.
Fun to watch you grow and learned alot of good tips.

If you have a AC dust extractor, just plug the makita aws adapter into the pto port of the extractor.
