Gaussian elimination goes back to the ancient Chinese. It is an algorithm that for us takes the augmented matrix of a system of linear equations and replaces it, step by step, with simpler matrices until it is in row-echelon form, and then further until it is in reduced row-echelon form.

In this video we describe the first half of this procedure.
