As soon as I heard the clunk I knew. Dampening spider cog. I made a hook to hand the column 6 or so inches lower then the hanger. Also using the long side of the hook you can return it back up to its hanger. Only have to remove the linkage and the mounting bolts. Column can stay in with lots of clearance to swap this out. If you work in hyandai or Kia often it’s common. I have a bag of these on the top of my tool chest.

A few years ago I was doing so many of these on the hyundais with the same unit, that I was able to do most models in like 20 minutes, some were a little more difficult mind you, but I found I never had to fully remove the steering shaft, even though I'm pretty sure workshop manuals always said to do it that way. good fun job once you know the tricks.

Kinda reminds me of how the pull cord works on kids mini moto bikes,
They failed the same way and the cure was an upgraded carbon fibre meshing fitting

Fun fact: there's no need to remove the column to do these. Just drop the column on the seat and rotate the motor to access the screws. Last one i did took 20 minutes.

3D printing is great for such cases if you can get the 3D model right.

Manufacturers don't like selling single bushes anymore, you have to buy the whole component at great cost.

It's way easier to do than this guy makes it seem you didn't have to pull the column
