I was thinking of building a house on the edge of a volcano, I mean what could possibly go wrong?

The Cape Hatteras light has indeed been moved several times in the past 200 years. This serves as a clear warning against building too close to the ocean.

fun fact, the outer banks in NC have seen some of the largest rises in sea levels of up to 1 foot over the last 100 years. Worse yet its accelerating. The next 100 years for that region is expected to see some of the largest increases, going up to 4 feet. The changes in the outer banks is WILD. Good luck to anyone living near the coast.

Why do these ppl let it get to this? Wouldn’t the town or whatever demand it be demolition or moved months or even years in advance???

You can tell those are older cottages by the way they look. Those things have probably been there since at least the 1970s. Not bad considering they were built on a sandbar.

How do you insure a home built in the flippin ocean

The beach in that part of North Carolina has been eroding rapidly at around 13 feet per year. The crazy thing is that when people built these homes they were way way way way way very far from the beach.

I blame the homeowners for not properly thinking about climate change and the rising ocean.

Sue the home and owners and insurance companies that insured them

Anybody else find it amazing how they were just far away enough that the collapsing one didn't hit the standing one? Pretty cool. 👏

Why would you build it there anyway all you’re doing is driving our insurance costs up

Building that close to the ocean shouldn't be allowed. That rubble in the ocean affecting sea life is horrible.

It would have been better to buy a house boat, at least you could sail away instead of being carried away.

I don't know insurance should be paying for ocean damage as well....how inconsiderate to wait for the ocean to do its thing and be selfish

The houses were high enough, it looks like the piles were not deep or strong enough.

This is sad that these people have lost their house however this is what happens when you build in unsafe places.
