Israeli settlers and police clashed with Armenian activists in Jerusalem on Wednesday. The activists allege that police unlawfully removed guard rooms used by the Armenian community to protect disputed land.
Reportedly, the land, known as Cows' Garden in the Armenian Quarter of Jerusalem, was sold to an Israeli-Australian developer intending to build a luxury hotel. The Armenian community deems the deal, orchestrated by the former Patriarch of the Armenian church, as "illegal."
The Armenian community asserts that the deal will not only impact the church grounds but also the homes of five Armenian families who did not consent to the agreement.
With the case still in court, Israeli settlers have been attempting to access the land and initiate the demolition process, resulting in clashes with Armenian activists for the past six months.
